The highly acclaimed series, The Last of Us, has been praised for being a well- crafted adaption and for recreating scenes straight from the video game. According to Comicbook, in the recent episode, “The Price,” fans have critiqued the bold narrative decision that the series creator, Neil Druckmann (Uncharted), made in showcasing the iconic porch scene a little earlier than in the game. The scene shows Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones, His Dark Materials) return to Joel, played by Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, The Wild Robot) and demand he tell her the truth behind his involvement with the Fireflies.
you’re telling me they showed the porch scene now instead of that being one of the final scenes that ties everything together and makes it more gut wrenchingly beautiful pic.twitter.com/DzowXAaHqp

The whole porch scene was such a masterclass of acting by both Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. They did such an incredible job with bringing this scene to life. Joel’s love for Ellie will always leave me in tears #TheLastOfUs #TheLastOfUsSeason2 pic.twitter.com/joln1yk4Nj

According to Comicbook, Druckmann goes on to explain the pivotal scene change within a podcast.
” That porch scene, I was so nervous about that because again, that scene is to me the most important scene in the entire story, which is why, you know, in the game, it’s at the very end,” said Druckmann via Comicbook. ”One of the choices that we made to bring it up and the reason we brought it up is because we were worried it wouldn’t work if you had to wait years to get this payoff. It felt here as if we’re on this journey with Ellie, and it felt appropriate to do it at this moment in time. But yeah, it was such a joy. It was a freaking joy to work on this and it felt like I was living in the world of The Last of Us and it was really cool.”
According to Comicbook, this is a major difference from the original version in the game. The scene is placed closer to the end when we see Ellie, voiced by Ashley Johnson (Infinity Train, The Legend of Vox Machina) in her final showdown with Abby, voiced by Laura Bailey (Critical Role, Soul Eater).
The remainder of the journey in the second season remains a mystery and is sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats. All current episodes of season two, along with the entire first season of The Last of Us, are available to stream on Max.
