Tammy Blanchard (Dare Me, The Good Wife, The Big C, Hoke), the famous Emmy-winning actress, is now part of FX‘s limited anthology series American Sports Story’s cast as series regular character, Deadline reports exclusively.
According to Deadline, the show was created by Stu Zicherman (A.C.O.D., Casanova, Elektra), and it will be an addition to Ryan Murphy’s (Hollywood, American Crime Story, The Watcher) American Horror Story franchise. American Sports Story is centered on a particular event relevant to a sports player, and it tells that story from various characters’ points of view, set in today’s world.
According to Deadline, the first season’s plotline explores the story of Aaron Hernandez, a famous NFL superstar, who will be portrayed by Josh Andrés Rivera (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, Sugar Baby, West Side Story). It will focus specifically on the story that will entangle a web of connections with his identity, his sports career, secrets, and his suicide. This season will be based on the Boston Globe and Wondery podcast named Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc.
Blanchard’s character, according to Deadline, will be the NFL star and convicted murderer’s mother, Terri Hernandez. FX and 20th Television have not commented on this news.
Deadline reports The show’s cast is Jake Cannavale (Inside Man, Nurse Jackie, The Offer), Jaylen Barron (Free Rein, Blindspotting, Shameless), Catfish Jean (Send Help, Survivor’s Remorse, Awkward), Patrick Schwarzenegger (Midnight Sun, Gen V, Moxie), Lindsay Mendez (All Rise, Significant Other, The Grotto), and Tony Yazbeck (The Good Fight, The Right Girl, Billions).
Executive producers of the show are Brad Simpson (Crazy Rich Asians, Party Monsters, Ben Is Back), Nina Jacobson (The Hunger Games, The Goldfinch, Crazy Rich Asians), Brad Falchuk (The Brothers Sun, Scream Queens, Glee), and Alexis Martin Woodall (The Prom, A Secret Love, The Normal Heart). According to Deadline, Blanchard was recently seen as the character of Audrey in the revival of Little Shop of Horrors on Broadway. In film, she is known for Into the Woods, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Moneyball, Blue Jasmine, Cadillac Records, and The Good Shepherd. The actress is represented by Paradigm Talent Agency.
