Taika Waititi rocked the world with his Thor: Ragnorak earlier this year, skyrocketing his name into the Hollywood spotlight. But before the New Zealand filmmaker became a household name, he was best known in indie filmmaking circles for his sharply original comedy film What We Do in the Shadows. The movie was a mockumentary following the mundane lives of a group of vampires.
Now, according to Comicbook.com, Waititi is developing two television spin-off series from his 2015 film. It was announced last year that Waititi and co-writer/co-director Jemaine Clement were developing a series titled Wellington Paranormal for New Zealand television. The series will be six episodes and follow paranormal investigators hunting down fantastical creatures such as vampires, werewolves, and zombies.
There is also word that Waititi and Clement are developing an additional television series based off of the film intended for American audiences. This series does not yet have a title and no other details for it have been released as of yet.
Wellington Paranormal is expected to premiere in New Zealand some time in 2018. It is not yet clear if it will also end up airing in America as well.
