Earlier this week, Syfy announced that they are renewing two of their most popular tv shows: The Expanse and 12 Monkeys. According to Deadline, The Expanse has been renewed for a third season, while 12 Monkeys is being renewed for a fourth and final season. Both of the series premiered two years ago in 2015, and the new seasons will premiere on Syfy in 2018.
12 Monkeys was based on the 1995 film of the same name. The tv series stars Aaron Stanford, Amanda Schull, and Kirk Acevedo. Catering to their audience of binge-watchers, Syfy will premiere all of season three (the current season, which includes 10 episodes) over a three day period this May (episodes 1,2,3,4 will air on May 19th, episodes 5,6,7 on May 20th, and then episodes 8, 9, 10 on May 21st). The fourth and final season will premiere in 2018.
The Expanse was based on The Expanse book series by James S. A. Corey, with the first season being based on the first half of the first book Leviathan Wakes, and the second season based on the second book Caliban’s War. No word whether the series will continue to follow the book series (which is currently on its ninth book), or whether the plot of the third season will deviate from the book series. The Expanse stars Thomas Jane, Steven Strait, Cas Anvar, and Dominique Tipper. Netflix is responsible for international distribution of the series. Season 2 will continue to premiere new episodes until April, then look for season 3 in 2018.
