For fans of the Sci-fi genre and those familiar with Stargate, this Syfy premiere is coming out now and many are curious to see what lies ahead in the final frontier. Dean Devlin (Leverage, Independence Day) and Jonathan Glassner (Stargate SG-1) are teaming up as executive producers for the new show named The Ark.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, this eerily familiar story takes place in the near future, 100 years to be exact. Life on Planet earth is in grave danger and humanity’s only hope is to colonize other planetary/celestial bodies. The Ark One begins its voyage when a catastrophic event grips its inhabitants in danger. The show would see the survivors battle with themselves and the cold vacuum of space in order to survive for the rest of their year long voyage.
The project began as a Straight to Series order from Syfy in January 2022. The cast of characters include Richard Fleeshman (Coronation Street, Deep Heat) as Lt. Brice, Reece Ritchie (10,000 BC, The Outpost) as Lt. Lane, and Christie Burke (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2, Maid) as Lt. Garnet. Joining them for the regular cast will be Stacey Read (Ameni, Zim High) and Ryan Adams (Orange Peel, Asking Price).
Recurring stars would also make an appearance such as Lisa Brenner (The Patriot, The Virtual End), Christina Wolfe (Need for Speed, Batwoman), Shalini Peiris (Vera, The Danny & Mick Show), Miles Barrow (The Peripheral, Scoop), Pavle Jerinić (Mayhem, Ubice Mog Oca), and Tiana Upcheva (The Outpost, Slotherhouse).
Along with Glassner and Devlin, the other Executive producers working with them include Marc Roskin (Stargate, Flyboys), and Rachel Olschan-Wilson (Flyboys, Geostorm).
The show aired on the Syfy channel on February 1st and on Peacock Plus the next day. Its reception was met with curious minds and skeptics alike, but with the show’s attention to its premise being told before, it wastes no time with filler or context and jumps right into the story. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The Ark‘s crisis-of-the-week structure keeps the pacing brisk and easy to watch.” The show has a 7.1/10 on IMDb and many reviews are optimistic.
