The Syfy dramedy series Resident Alien has been renewed for a season two, as reported by Deadline. Starring Alan Tudyk (Dodgeball, Rogue One), this news comes ahead of the season one finale airing on March 31.
In Resident Alien, Tudyk portrays Harry, an alien from another planet who’s spaceship crashes down into small-town Colorado while on a mission to destroy humankind. With no way out, he disguises himself as the town doctor while simultaneously learning how to be human. Things get complicated when he is forced to help solve a local murder and quickly becomes friends with several members of the community. This sets up a major crisis for Harry’s mission as he begins to suspect that humankind isn’t all that bad.
Premiering on Syfy on January 31, the pilot of Resident Alien was watched by 9.3 million people across various platforms. It’s since become the most watched new cable drama series within the past year. Deadline picked up a statement from Lisa Katz, the President of Scripted Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming: “With Resident Alien, everything just came together in perfect harmony – a script by Chris Sheridan that leapt off the page, a lead performance by Alan Tudyk, whose nuance between comedy and menace was pitch perfect, and a team of producers, cast and crew who were all striving to do something great. The appeal of this show transcended the sci-fi genre in a way that enabled us to bring in a broader audience, and as the series continues we hope to encourage more and more fans to discover Harry’s very particular perspective on humans.”
Sara Tomko (Sneaky Pete), Alice Wetterlung (Space Force), Meredith Garretson (Fosse/Vernon), Corey Reynolds (All American), Levi Fiehler (Mars), Elizabeth Bowen (Upload), and Mandel Maughan (Me, Myself, and I) also star.
The show is based on the Dark Horse Comic by Peter Hogan (Revolver) and Stephen Parkhorse (Sex Pistols: The Graphic Novel). It’s executive produced by Chris Sheridan (Family Guy), Mike Richardson (Hellboy), Darryl Frank (The Americans), Keith Goldberg (The Umbrella Academy), David Dobkin (Into the Badlands), and Robbie Duncan McNeil (The Gifted).
Season one of Resident Alien contains a total of ten episodes, with number eight, “End of the World As We Know It” airing tonight on SyFy at 10 pm E.T. The season finale will air on Wednesday, March 31 at 10 pm E.T.
