The Almighty Johnsons are making their way to the United States. According to Variety, SyFy has acquired the first two seasons of the New Zealand-based dramedy.
The series follows the Johnson brothers, seemingly ordinary young men who discover that they are the human incarnations of the Norse gods. Their powers, however, are limited, meaning that the brothers must find a balance between their supernatural abilities and their everyday lives. Chris Regina, SyFy’s senior vice president of programming, expressed his hope that the series’ “compelling blend of fantasy and comedy…should resonate strongly with viewers.”
Starring Emmett Skilton, Tim Balme, Dean O’Gorman and Jared Turner, The Almighty Johnsons will be “the first wholly New Zealand originated and produced drama series to be broadcast in the United States,” according to Kelly Martin, CEO of South Pacific Pictures.
The first season, consisting of ten episodes, will be broadcast on SyFy next year, followed by the thirteen-episode second season. The third season is currently airing in New Zealand.
