Having to wait to open the box was an extreme exercise in self control, and there to encourage patience was none other than Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), an executive producer on the series. Downey Jr. posted to Instagram on Thursday, teasing the contents of the box in anticipation of the announcement. He, along with his producing partner wife, Susan Downey (Perry Mason), will return once again as series executive producers for season two.

Jim Mickle (Hap and Leonard), co-showrunner alongside Beth Schwarz (Arrow), released a statement upon the season two renewal picked up by Entertainment Weekly: “It’s been equally thrilling and heartwarming to experience how people around the world have been falling in love with our deer-boy…We couldn’t be more excited to continue our collaboration with Netflix and keep following Gus and his friends on their extraordinary journey.”
Schwarz will not be returning for season two, though a representative for Warner Bros. Television told Entertainment Weekly that was always the plan: “ (Schwartz) had always planned to stay on board for [Sweet Tooth‘s] first season only, before focusing on her own development projects. Up next, she will write, executive produce and showrun the pilot of Red Queen for Peacock and is currently developing other projects for Warner Bros. TV under her overall deal.” Now, Mickle will continue on as the sole showrunner for season two.
Sweet Tooth debuted its first season on Netflix June 4. Containing eight episodes, the series quickly became the number one watched program on Netflix, reaching sixty million households within its first four weeks. The series stars Christian Convery (Pup Academy), Nonso Azonie (Game of Thrones), Stefania LeVie Owen (The Carrie Diares), Dania Ramirez (Once Upon a Time), Adeel Akhtar (Utopia), and Aliza Vellani (iZombie).
