The four-way superhero crossover on the CW just found its villain.
This week the CW finally gave some insight into the crossover and what will bring the heroes together in what has been dubbed the “Arrowverse.” Marc Guggenheim, the executive producer of Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow, told TV Guide, “This year, for our mega ‘Arrowverse’ crossover, we’re taking inspiration from a DC crossover from the late 1980s known as Invasion!, which featured an alien race called the Dominators, who’d previously vexed the Legion of Superheroes. We’re using cutting edge prosthetics and computer effects to achieve a feature film-quality look which is faithful to Invasion! artist Todd McFarlane’s interpretation of the characters.”
Back in May the CW announced that its annual superhero crossover event would include all four DC universe series, meaning Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow would all share the same story-line and characters. Every year the CW has a big crossover event, but in the last two years, the crossover has only shown Teams Arrow and Flash joining forces. Previously, the crossover was a two-part event with the first part of the story taking place on The Flash and the second on Arrow.
Since DC’s Legends of Tomorrow premiered post-crossover event, this year would be the first time the heroes aboard The Waverider would team up with The Flash and Green Arrow. Now that Supergirl has switched from CBS to the CW, the crossover will go from juggling two series to now four.
Since Supergirl airs on Monday nights, the crossover will kick off in National City. But according to TV Guide, the events of the crossover will only be touched on in Supergirl. Supergirl and her team will not be completely involved in the crossover, which makes sense since when The Flash and Supergirl had a crossover episode last year Barry Allen only met Kara Danvers after accidentally traveling between alternate realities.
After the crossover kicks off on Supergirl, the storyline will pick up on Tuesday night on The Flash, continue on Arrow and conclude on Thursday on Legends of Tomorrow.
