Super Family Reunion This Fall: Superman Visits ‘Supergirl’ On The CW

Confirmed earlier today by Variety, it was announced that Kal-El will be visiting cousin Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist) on the upcoming second season of Supergirl this fall on The CW.

Casting for the role of the iconic Clark Kent is currently underway and executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says enthusiastically that, “we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!”

Although Superman was mentioned and shown in a dream sequence for a minimal amount of time during season one, season two promises to have the Man of Steel in the first two episodes of the new season.

CBS, who at the time was the home of Supergirl, only ever black lit or obscured Superman’s face during the first season’s appearances to give Supergirl the focus instead of her superhero cousin.

However, Daniel DiMaggio did manage to become the face of the young Kal-El when he was featured in a dream sequence. Yet it is with season two that we shall have a definite identity on who the new Kryptonian is.

Supergirl already called upon past Superman, Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) to star in the series as Jeremiah Danvers, the adoptive father of Kara. The Superman franchise has a way of reusing actors within new DC related projects, so it is entirely possible to see if fellow Superman Alum, Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) would like to make an appearance in the upcoming season. Routh is currently appearing as Ray Palmer, or The Atom, on The CW’s DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow.

On the big screen, Henry Cavill is currently the square jawed, indestructible savior in Man Of Steel and the more recent Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice. His next appearance will be in the upcoming Justice League which is due to premiere later next year.

With Supergirl making the move to The CW and the Superman franchise recycling the actors within projects, personally I’d love to see some Smallville connections happening. Is it too late to ask Tom Welling to reprise his role? He played the Kryptonian for 10 seasons, surely a few random appearances wouldn’t be too hard to handle. And another glimpse of him in the red and blue tights wouldn’t be too bad either.

You can catch a glimpse of the new Superman this season on Supergirl, Mondays at 8 p.m. on The CW.
