Super Bowl Ads Sell Out Averaging $4 Million

Super Bowl advertisements sold out with each averaging $4 million and some spots have hit an all-time record of $4.5 million.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox Sports Media Group executive vp of sales, Neil Mulcahy, believes this Super Bowl’s location made for pricey advertisements.

“Because it is in New York it’s 10 times what it could normally be,” Mulcahy said. “There are so many opportunities, so many companies and advertising agencies based in New York, and everybody wants to make the splash bigger.”

“We’ve been on the street selling all of our properties together,” says Mulcahy. “It’s not like we’re forcing people to do anything but our sales pitch since the upfront has been we want you to participate in everything.”

Last year’s Super Bowl ads averaged $3.7 million to $3.8 million each, a high at the time. In August, Fox had sold more than 80 percent of its ad space for the Super Bowl. Some of the last ads sold by Fox rose as high as $4.5 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Some of the companies that will dominate the Super Bowl ads are in the automotive industry including Chevy, Chrysler, Hyundai, Jaguar and Kia. Other advertisers include one of the major Super Bowl ad buyers, Budweiser. Pepsi Cola will sponsor the halftime show featuring Bruno Mars. There is a vast amount of different advertisements from electronics to candy bars.

This year’s Super Bowl will have a higher price tag in its 44-year history, exceeding $70 Million This Super Bowl will be live streamed for the first time on FoxSports.com, according to Marla Newman, Fox Sports Digital senior VP Sales.

Super Bowl XLVIII will be February 2, 2014 on Fox.
