Amazon’s The Boys has announced that Suicide Squad‘s Karen Fukuhara (who played as Katana) has been cast as a series regular. She will play as the character Female. Female is a young assassin with superpowers and incredible fighting skills. She does not speak too much and is also the deadliest member of the team. Her methods are brutal, even in the eyes of the rest of her team. As the series progresses she learns the meaning of being human through a relationship with Frenchie. She also has a couple of hobbies which are animals and working for the mafia.
The series itself is based off of a comic book by Garth Ennis (Preacher) and Darick Robertson. Eric Kripke (Supernatural creator and Timeless co-creator) is making the television version of the comic, he will be the showrunner. The comic is set in a place where superheroes are out of control. Superpowers are weapons and the people that have them care more about sex, fame, and power, rather than saving the world. The Boys team are a last resort group. They are led by Billy Butcher who is joined by: Mother Milk, The Frenchman, The Female, and Hughie. Hughie joins after his girlfriend is a superhero’s collateral damage. The Boys are a group of vigilantes that go against corrupt superheroes.
Fukuhara will be joining: Erin Moriarty, Antony Starr, Dominique McElligott, Chace Crawford, Jesse T. Usher, and Nathan Mitchell. Kripke will also executive produce the series along with: Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen (who are also set to direct the show), Neal H. Moritz, Ori Marmur, Pavun Shetty, Jason Netter, Ken Levin, and James Weaver. Ennis and Robertson will co-executive produce.
The Boys is expected to be released in 2019 and be an eight episode season.
