According to ScreenRant, Netflix’s Dungeons & Dragon’s-esque thriller series Stranger Things is releasing a paperback prequel story following one of its mist popular, influential, and heroic characters. Eddie Munson, played by Joseph Quinn (Game of Thrones, Les Miserables, Dickensian), is returning not on the living room TV, but in a new book entitled Flight of Icarus following the events prior to meeting the main cast of characters and his eventual sacrifice.
Eddie was introduced into the Stranger Things series last summer during the release of season four. The metalhead is shown as the leader of the Hellfire Club, a D&D collaboration group, but is soon framed for the mysterious and demonic deaths of teenagers across Hawkins High, due to the placement and nature of the murder. Becoming the town pariah, Eddie cowers away and tries to understand why any of this is happening to him. He eventually links up with other main characters and strategizes a plan to clear his name and bring justice to the man/beast responsible. In the end, Eddie uses his shredding skills on the guitar to lure the murderer’s attention away from a surprise attack. He ends up fighting a swarm of hell-bats and biding more time for the group to ambush the enemy. Unfortunatley, Eddie perishes without anyone aware of the alleged Satanist’s sacrifice.
Currently, season five writer, Caitlin Schneiderhan (The AM Archives, Life with LEO, Puncher’s Chance) has released a title and synopsis for Eddie’s prequel story along with cover art and a release date of October 31. Read the synopsis via EW below:
Hawkins, Indiana — for most, it’s simply another idyllic, manicured all-American town. But for Eddie Munson it’s like living in a perpetual Tomb of Horrors. Luckily, he only has a few more months to survive at Hawkins High. And what is senior year, really, but just killing time between Dungeons & Dragons sessions with the Hellfire Club and gigs with his band?
It’s at the worst dive bar in town that Eddie meets Paige, someone who has pulled off a freaking miracle. She escaped Hawkins and built a wickedly cool life for herself working for a record producer out in Los Angeles.
Not only is she the definition of a badass — with a killer taste in music — she might be the only person that actually appreciates him as the bard he is instead of the devil incarnate. But the best thing? She’s offering a chance for him to make something of himself, and all he needs is to get her a demo tape of Corroded Coffin’s best songs.
Just one problem: Recording costs money. Money Eddie doesn’t have. But he’s willing to do whatever it takes: even if that means relying on his old man, Al Munson. His dad just stumbled back into his life, with another dubious scheme up his sleeve, and yet Eddie knows this is his only option to make enough dough in enough time. It’s a risk, but if it pays off he will finally have a one-way ticket out of Hawkins.
Eddie can feel it: 1984 is going to be his year.
Though fans of Eddie and his music are pushing for a comeback in the final season it would make more sense if Eddie stayed a martyr and came back in the prequel story, instead being used as a puppet for main antagonist, Vecna. Seasons one through four of Stranger Things are currently streamable on Netflix.
