Let me be the millionth person to note that Halloween is too far away.
Season one of Stranger Things was a critical and social success, inundating our day-to-day lives with Eggo references and a reignited love for science fiction. Now that the season two teaser has been released, audiences are clamoring for any information they can find. Thankfully, the creators of Stranger Things spoke with Entertainment Weekly and put (some of) our worries to rest.
Almost a year has passed in the world of Stranger Things. The dust has settled from the boys’ adventure, now that the mysterious Eleven has gone and their pal Will has returned. Matt Duffer, the series co-creator, told EW that Will is still experiencing “some sort of post-traumatic stress disorder.”
Naturally, this makes sense, considering he was hunted for quite some time in the Upside Down. But he’s not the only one experiencing emotional aftershocks. Joyce, Will’s mother (played by the talented Winona Ryder), is trying to ease his experience as much as possible. Ryder herself says, “She’s trying to mask a lot.” And with a newfound relationship with her high school sweetheart (played by Sean Astin), Ryder says, “I think she’s made this choice with Bob because she wants a good father figure in her sons’ lives.”
Will can certainly get all the help he can get. The creators also told EW that there’s going to be a new dynamic with the iconic friendship between Will and his friends when a new brother and sister duo roll into town. While the sister seems amiable, Billy is not so receptive to the boys’ amiable nature. Matt Duffer promises some major antagonists for the season, saying, “Stephen King always has really great human villains. The evil in the real world is often as bad or worse than the supernatural evil, so we wanted to introduce a character like that.”
Don’t fret. Stranger Things will return in just eight short months.
