The upcoming live-action reboot of the beloved animated series Gargoyles has been generating buzz, and in the latest update revealed that it will have darker tone. According to Screenrant, the series back in 1994, follows the journey of a group of creatures, who were petrified into stone for over a millennium, become defenders of New York City. Iconic voices from the original cast of the series consisted of Keith David (Hazbin Hotel, Rick and Morty) as Goliath, Jeff Bennett (Dexter’s Laboratory, John Bravo) as Brooklyn and Bill Fagerbakke (SpongeBob Squarepants, Camp Coral) as Broadway.
According to Screenrant, information on the release window and casting for the live adaptation remains a mystery, but the reboot will surely be a rollercoaster of nostalgia for many viewers worldwide, and will most defintly follow the same story as in the original. This embrace for a grittier aesthetic will make for a most compelling narrative that will keep the viewers on the edge of their seats.
The original series writer, Gary Dauberman (Until Dawn, It) goes on in an interview with Screenrant about the update on the live-action series. His entire conversation can be seen below.
“Oh, yes, another beloved piece of IP. This new iteration of Gargoyles… The show was already pretty dark in that it was serialized, it was a mature thing, it’s operatic and the story was so epic. I’m hoping it’s very similar to the vibe that you got when you were watching it back in the late ’90s. I just loved that half hour of television, falling into their world. I’m hoping we achieve that. It’s a lot of fun, though — it’s a thrill.”
According to Screenrant, this new approach to the series, could potentially delve deeper into the rich lore behind the Gargoyle’s past. Dauberman’s enthauism for working on the approaching is clear to see. While further news on the live action arises, fans can rewatch all seasons of the classic Gargoyle series on Disney+.
