Stevie Nicks is Turning Rock Song ‘Rhiannon’ into a Television Series with Plans of Featuring Harry Styles

Stevie Nicks, two time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee and lead singer of Fleetwood Mac is breaking into the TV Business. “Rhiannon”, the song Fleetwood Mac released in 1975 which then led them to superstardom, will be the basis for the upcoming miniseries. Nicks had been planning on turning the hard-hitting rock song into a film since the 70s, but now she’s moving to television according to Indiewire

Nicks wrote “Rhiannon” in 1974 around Halloween time. Inspired after reading a novel called Triad: A Novel of the Supernatural by Mary Leader, it’s a story about magic and a welsh witch named Rhiannon. Entranced by the name, she built a song around it, ushering in one of the band’s first hit singles. From there, it cemented Nicks and the rest of Fleetwood Mac as permanent rock and roll stars. A crowd favorite, she performs it at every show and throughout the seventies would start the song by saying, “this is a story about a welsh witch.” Now, the story is continuing and she will delve deeper than she ever has before into the witch named Rhiannon.

Nicks has confirmed she will not star in the project, but she does have plans for Harry Styles (Dunkirk). A frequent collaborator, Styles inducted Nicks into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in 2019, the first woman to ever be inducted twice. In a statement picked up by Indiewire, Nicks said in regards of wanting to cast Styles: “I’m going, ‘Harry, you cannot age one day. You have to stay exactly as you are.’ I’ve already sold him on it.” Nicks also made an appearance with Styles in late 2019 at the LA Forum when Styles debuted his new album Fine Line. The duo sang “Landslide” together.

Because the idea of putting “Rhiannon” on screen has been brewing for decades, Nicks has had time to create several ideas. Making a feature length film became unrealistic with so much material, with her instead turning to a miniseries format. The show will be like a dark fairytale, exploring all the mystery that surrounds Rhiannon and the other magical happenings within Triad. A long time in the making, Nicks has not yet revealed which studio she’s signed with.

This is not Nick’s first venture into television. She made her on screen debut in American Horror Story: Coven in 2013, playing herself as The White Witch. She performed several songs, including “Rhiannon.” She also made an appearance reprising the role in Season 8, American Horror Story: Apocalypse, where she sang rock classic “Gypsy”

Throughout her decades spanning career, rumors spawned that Nicks herself was a witch. Combining the song “Rhiannon” with her black chiffon clothing and possessed like performances on stage, many believed her to practice witchcraft. Often deemed the Fairy Godmother of Rock and Roll, with the upcoming project she’s keeping the rumor alive.
