“Things will age, and we want to get the next generation of shows to keep this CW Universe going for as many years as possible,” CW President Mark Pedowitz told reporters back in January at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. It sounded like Pedowitz was hinting at an end for Arrow. Fast forward to March and we receive news that Arrow will come to an end after season eight. The season will be its shortest with only 10 episodes.
Below is a tweet from Stephen Amell’s official Twitter account announcing the sad news to his fans.
Playing Oliver Queen has been the greatest professional experience of my life… but you can’t be a vigilante forever.
Arrow will return for a final run of 10 episodes this Fall.
There’s so much to say… for now I just want to say thank you.

After breaking the news, Amell took part in a Facebook Live Stream to thank his fans and everyone involved with the show while also hinting that we haven’t heard the last of the vigilante. “To the people watching this right now, to the people that have populated my social media channels over the past seven-plus years, I have made countless friends, I have been able to tell so many stories, I’ve been able to facilitate great moments for people because they’re a fan of the Green Arrow and I’ll miss that a great deal, but something tells me… even when I’m done, I won’t be gone,” said Amell. “If you’ve watched the Arrowverse, you should understand that.”
The success of The CW’s Arrow has led to “Arrowverse”, where the show was introduced to characters from The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow during its crossover. On December 9-11 2018, The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl were all in “Elseworlds,” an “Arrowverse” crossover event that showed each of these shows on their own respective dates. “Elseworlds” was an introduction to the infamous Gotham City, the debut of Batwoman (Ruby Rose) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch). After the end of “Elseworlds,” there was confirmation that “Crisis on Infinite Earths“ would be the next crossover airing later this year.
In the comics, “Crisis on Infinite Earths” reveals the deaths of Supergirl and The Flash but with the next season of Arrow being the last, will Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) sacrifice himself? It’s the main theory fans are focusing on. Although it would make sense, there is no telling what lies ahead for our heroes.
After the cancellation, some of the cast members took to their social media to express just how much the show meant for them. Below is a touching tribute from Katie Cassidy’s (who plays Lauren Lance) Instagram account.
