Arrow’s Stephen Amell shared some news yesterday about his upcoming TV project but had no details to spare. “I’ve recently closed on a new project that I’m really excited about that I am not allowed to talk about. It’s on TV,” Amell said. “I thought that the news was going to break last night, and I was kind of excited to talk about it today, but it’s for me… next question, next question. But something. Something very soon.”
Now new details have emerged for Amell’s TV show, a pro-wrestling drama called Heels on Starz. Written by Michael Waldron (Community, Loki), the eight-episode series follows a family-owned wrestling promotion called the Duffy Wrestling Association (DWA) where two brothers find themselves on opposing sides for their late father’s legacy in the company. Amell is no stranger to the ring with multiple appearances in WWE where he feuded with Stardust (Cody Rhodes).
In Heels, Amell plays Jack Spade, an in-ring villain, but outside of the company, he is a father, husband, and owner of DWA. Amell previously stated that he would want to portray an on-screen villain which will be unusual for fans of Arrow to take in.
“Part of the fun for me with acting is identifying a job, be it Arrow or any job that came before it for me, and really buckling down and trying to get it,” Amell said. “I don’t know what that job is but I’m excited. If I’m gonna play a DC character again it has to be a villain because I like villains. Favorite villain? General Zod.”
Mike O’Malley sits in as showrunner with Waldron, LBI Entertainment’s Julie Yorn, Chris Donnelly, and Patrick Walmsley as executive producers. Heels will be produced by Lionsgate TV and Paramount TV.
There is no set premiere date for the series.
