According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox’s Baywatch reboot is to cast Stephen Amell (The Borderlines, Little Lorraine) to lead the series. Amell has been cast as Hobie Buchannon, which will be series regular role in the reboot series. The series will consist of 12 episodes to start with, premiering in the 2026-27 season from Fox Entertainment and Fremantle, which holds the rights to the original show.
“From the first conversation, Stephen Amell brought exactly what this new chapter of Baywatch demands: heart, intensity, and that undeniable hero energy,” Matt Nix, executive producer and showrunner, said in a statement via The Hollywood Reporter,. “He’s the kind of lead who can sprint into danger, carry the emotional weight, and still make it feel fun. We’re so excited to get started.”
As per The Hollywood Reporter, the original Baywatch series aired in 1989 and quickly became one of the most-watched series in the world. The series aired in over 200 countries and it starred David Hasselhoff (Guardians of the Galexy Vol.2, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie) as Mitch Buchannon, the lead lifeguard.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, production on Baywatch is slated to begin shooting this spring in Venice Beach and on the Fox studio lot in Century City. Nix (Burn Notice, The Gifted, True Lies) will be serving as showrunner and executive producer alongside executive producers McG, Michael Berk (Soul Surfer, The Wizard), Greg Bonann (Element of Gold, Avalon: Beyond the Abyss), Doug Schwartz (Cabin Pressure, Steel Chariots), Dante Di Loreto (The Mosquito Coast, Glee) and Mike Horowitz (Burn Notice, Prison Break). McG (The O.C., Charlie’s Angels, Terminator Salvation) will also direct the first episode.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Amell is known for many different roles such as playing Oliver Queen in Arrow, Supergirl, Batwoman, Dc’s Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash. His other roles include Ted Black in Suits LA and Jack Spade in Heels and many others. UTA, Leverage Management and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern represent Amell.
