The popular Star Wars series, Andor, has captivated fans with its complex characters, rich world-building and gritty atmosphere. It follows the journey of Cassian, played by Diego Luna (The Book of Life, Rouge One) as he goes, from being a waiting thief, to a hero for the republic. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series creator, Tony Gilroy (The Bourne Legacy, Nightcrawler) goes on to share some of the obstacles that he and the production team are currently facing with getting the second season on track.
Gilroy goes on to share in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, “Legacy characters are really tricky to bring back. They’re very, very expensive. A lot of times, their schedules don’t work out. There’s probably a couple people that we wanted to have in Yavin at the end, who are in the beginning of Rogue, but we just couldn’t get them because they were busy.” Other characters alongside Diego that have made the series really popular and surely return in the second season are Stellan Skarsgård (Dune, Mamma Mia!) as Luthen, Genevieve O’Reilly (Tin Star, The Secret) as Mon Mothma and Adria Arjona (Morbius, 6 Underground) as Bix Caleen.
The pressure is immense. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the high expectation of replicating the same level of praise that made the first season so memorable will cause a major obstacle, and Gilroy is aware of this.
He further credits his time with Disney and Lucasfilm in the interview ,”On the creative side, I will never have an experience like this ever again. It’s just amazing that they trusted us, and they backed our play all the way through.”
The second season will further connecting to other installments of the franchise. The entire first season of Andor is available on Disney+. Watch the season two premiere on April 22.
