‘Station 19’ Executive Producer Shonda Rhimes Commentates on Series Cancellation

The Grey’s Anatomy spinoff drama series by ABC entitled Station 19 will end with its impending seventh season. According to TV Line, the cancellation was announced on Friday by ABC. The stars and crew of the show are taking to social media to memorialize and reflect on its five-year run.

“Grateful for an unforgettable run,” Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal), the show’s executive producer, wrote on Instagram Friday night. “A heartfelt salute to the exceptional cast whose brilliance brought the characters to life and to the viewers who continued to make it possible! Thank you for the magic, the moments, and the memories.”

Actress Jaina Lee Ortiz (Rosewood, Girls Trip), who portrayed Andy Herrera in the series since its premiere in 2018, reshared Rhimes’ statement on Instagram, saying, “Still processing this… The love runs so deep. Thank you, Shonda.”

Alongside Ortiz, the series only has five original actors in the mix. These include Grey Damon (Oldboy, The Flash), who plays Jack Gibson; Jason George (Fallen, Sunset Beach), who plays Ben Warren; Barrett Doss (The Noel Diary, Iron Fist), who plays Vic or Victoria Hughes; Danielle Savre (Heroes, Supernatural), who plays Maya Bishop; and Jay Hayden (The Catch, SEAL Team), who plays Travis Montgomery. 

Other cast members include Boris Kodjoe (Surrogates, Addicted), who portrays Robert Sullivan; Carlos Miranda (The Bling Ring, Warrior), who portrays Theo Ruiz; and Stefania Spampinato (Grey’s Anatomy, Ford v. Ferrari), who portrays Dr. Carina DeLuca. 

Having been renewed in April, the series has received two new showrunners: Peter Paige (The Fosters, Queer as Folk) and Zoanne Clack (The District, Grey’s Anatomy), who replaced Krista Vernoff (Charmed, Shameless)

Station 19 takes place in Seattle, Washington, and follows the everyday lives of the heroic men and women who live and work in Firehouse Station 19. 

The show’s 100th episode will air during the last ten episodes of the seventh season and premiere on Thursday, Mar.14 at 10/9c.
