Starz’s crime drama series, Power Book II: Ghost, has garnered a large viewership for its fourth and final season, reports Deadline. With the series first debuting in 2020 and the fourth season premiering June 7th, 2024, the Power franchise has gained 1.5 billion hours globally watched.
Deadline revealed that since the first part of season four’s launch, the premiere was Starz’s largest debut to date. Episodes from the premiere “drew 6.5 million multi-platform viewers in their first week,” continues Deadline, according to Starz reports.
Starz speculates that the rise in viewership is due to the audience’s sense of urgency to watch the newest episodes, evident from the “11% of premiere day streams coming in the first hours after it [season four] launched.
The show’s success comes from the original crime drama series, Power as Power Book II: Ghost is the first spinoff from its predecessor. According to Deadline, the sequel “follows Ghost’s son who, after killing his father and covering [it] up, attempts to start fresh and far from his father’s criminal empire. Unfortunately, he is dragged back into a life of crime when his mother (Naturi Naughton) is convicted of Ghost‘s murder.” The fourth season was renewed a few months before the third season’s premiere on March 17th, 2024, via mxdwn.
The show’s cast features Woody McClain (The Harder They Fall, The New Edition Story), Gianni Paolo (Power, Ma), LaToya Tonodeo, Lovell Adams-Gray (The Fosters, The Oath), Caroline Chikezie (The Double Deal, The Passage), Alix Lapri (Power, Den of Thieves), Michael Ealy (Barbershop, Takers) and LightSkinKeisha (Insecure, Ghetto Girlz Eat), via Deadline.
Serving as executive producer and showrunner for Power Book II: Ghost season four is Brett Mahoney (CSI: Miami, The Following). Joining Mahoney as additional executive producers are Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (Power, Get Rich or Die Tryin’) with production studio G-Unit Film and Television, Courtney A. Kemp (Power, The Good Wife) with company End of Episode and Mark Canton (Power, 300) with Canton Entertainment.
Power Book II: Ghost is available to watch on Starz, and its predecessor, Power, is available to stream through Hulu via mxdwn.
