Starz Cancels ‘Magic City’

Starz has canceled the 1959 based Miami drama Magic City after its second season. The show was awarded a second season before the premiere of the first.

Starz released a statement saying, “From the writers, to the cast and crew, it has been an incredible collaboration. This was a story born from Mitch Glazer’s singular vision of Miami, the Magic City of his childhood, and we are grateful to him for bringing it to life on Starz. The season’s story arc will allow us to deliver a satisfying conclusion to the series, and we thank all the fans who checked in to the Miramar Playa.”

Though the series campaigned extensively and had notable guest castings, Magic City couldn’t attain a greater following during the second season, a desired attribute for a costly show like Magic City which Starz also produces, according to Deadline.

Starz’ desire to provide more action-oriented programming could also serve to Magic City‘s and the Chicago political drama Boss‘ cancellation after only two seasons.

The intended season, now series finale will air this Friday.
