According to the Hollywood Reporter, Fox is currently working on a remake of the iconic and beloved 1970’s police procedural series, Starsky & Hutch. The series was originally produced by Columbia Pictures TV under Sony Pictures Television, but only Fox Entertainment is slated to produce the upcoming remake show.
In an exclusive interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn said that he expects to have at least two scripts from co-writers/co-showrunners Sam Sklaver (Prodigial Son, Me Time) and Elizabeth Peterson (The Resident, Deception) before deciding whether or not to move along with the project.
This remake is one of many projects currently in Fox’s development pipeline. Some of the other projects being developed by the network include a medical drama from writer and showrunner Barbie Kligman (Magnum P.I., Secrets and Lies) entitled, Doc, as well as a supernatural drama series from Marc Cherry (Desperate Housewives, Why Women Kill) currently operating under the title, Jenny is a Weapon. Peterson is also currently part of the mini writers room developing Jenny is a Weapon.
As written by the Hollywood Reporter, the Starsky & Hutch reboot series will purportedly reimagine the two Southern California cops as female detectives Sasha Starsky and Nicole “Hutch” Hutchinson, who solve crimes in the quaint but unorthodox Desert City. Fueled by their loving and supportive friendship, the two detectives must work together to keep their city safe while also piecing together the mystery behind the identity of the mastermind who framed both their fathers for a crime they didn’t commit almost fifteen years ago.
So far, it is currently unknown whether David Soul (Here Comes the Brides, Magnum Force) or Paul Michael Glaser (Grace and Frankie, Ray Donovan), who starred in the title roles in the original 1975 series, will be returning for Fox’s alleged remake.
