Fans have been waiting eagerly for the return of the famous The Boys spinoff series, Gen V. Filming and production of the series’ second season have been ongoing since July, and now it seems like the cast of the series has confirmed that it’s all wrapped, Comicbook.com reports.
“According to Comicbook.com, series stars including Lizze Broadway (Ghosted, The Inhabitant), who portrays Emma/Little Cricket; Derek Luh (Shining Vale), who portrays Jordan Li; and Sean Patrick Thomas (Barbershop, Reasonable Doubt), who portrays Polarity, have shared the news via an Instagram post, embedded below. Luh shared behind-the-scenes pictures with the caption, “All done S2 @genv.”
According to Comicbook.com, Prime Video has previously confirmed that the second season will be released in 2025, but there is no release date confirmed yet. Before production of season two began, series star Chance Perdomo (Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina, After We Fell) unexpectedly passed away because of injuries sustained from sudden motorcycle accident. Filming was delayed after his death to give the cast, crew and family time to mourn. After that time, within a few weeks, executive producer Eric Kripke (Supernatural, Boogeyman) confirmed to Comicbook that the late Perdomo’s character would die in the series and would not be recast.
“First, it’s just so unbelievably tragic, and my heart goes out to his family,” Kripke explained via Comicbook.com. “We’re not trying to replace him because we can’t. We’re playing the character’s death on the show. So it’s very heavy and it’s really emotionally difficult for the cast. And we’re just trying to honor Chance as best we can.”
According to Comicbook.com, Gen V‘s first season finale was entangled with the events happening in The Boys season four. Butcher figured out the super-killing virus was playing a major role in the show’s most recent season, as Gen V stars made minor appearances on The Boys. There is still no official information on Gen V‘s second-season storyline yet.
Gen V is the first spinoff of The Boys, alongside the animated anthology show The Boys Presents: Diabolical, which was released afterward. However, according to Comicbook.com, creators have confirmed two more spinoffs of The Boys coming up, such as Vought Rising, which is a prequel series starring Jensen Ackles (Supernatural, The Winchesters) as Soldier Boy and Aya Cash (The Franchise, Scare Me) as Stormfront; and The Boys: Mexico, currently in development, starring Diego Luna (Narcos: Mexico, Star Wars: Andor), with Gael Garcia Bernal (Coco, La Máquina) as producer.
Gen V season one is available to stream on Prime Video, as the second season is set to release in 2025.
