Sadly, the Hollywood Reporter has just announced that actress and vocalist Maggie Thrett passed away this past Sunday of health complications from an infection at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park. She was 76.
Thrett is best known for playing one of the three gorgeous humanoid mail-order brides who require pills to keep them from physically aging on the season one Star Trek episode, “Mudd’s Women.” She is also known for playing the pacifist hippie Jan in the 1968 sex revenge satire and box office hit, Three in the Attic, starring alongside the likes of Yvette Mimieux (The Time Machine, Where the Boys are), Christopher Jones (Ryan’s Daughter, Wild in the Streets), and Judy Pace (The Young Lawyers, Cotton Comes to Harlem).
Both Thrett and Three in the Attic were briefly featured on a TV spot that played in the background of Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood during the scene in which stunt driver Cliff Booth, played by Brad Pitt (Fight Club, Bullet Train), drives down Hollywood Boulevard in his blue Karmann Ghia convertible.
Thrett, originally named Diane Pine, was born on November 18, 1946, in New York City. She attended the High School for the Performing Arts in Manhattan and eventually became a model before appearing on the over of Harper’s Bazaar. She then went on to record the single “Your Love is Mine” in 1964, as well as the 1965 minor hit song “Soupy” with The Four Seasons producer Bob Crewe.
As written by the Hollywood Reporter, Thrett appeared in a handful of other films and television shows, such as The Devil’s Brigade, The Most Deadly Game, and I Dream of Jeannie, before eventually quitting acting altogether in 1974 to work as a telephone operator at a hospital.
Thrett was married to Canadian actor Donelly Rhodes (Danger Bay, Sidestreet), who she met on the set of the 1974 Saturday morning television program, Run, Joe, Run, from 1975 until their divorce in 1977. Her survivors include brothers Richard, John, Larry, and Robert; nieces Trudy, Kelsey, Hayley, Samantha, Courtney, Tracey, and Dianne; and nephew Chris.
