If you are a fan of animation, this Star Wars show is for you. According to Comicbook, Lucasfilm revealed the trailer and cast for the second season of Visions, a groundbreaking show from the Star Wars universe. What makes Visions stand out among all the Star Wars animated shows is that all the show’s episodes have been produced by different animation studios worldwide. Watch the trailer below.
Nine different Japanese animation studios produced the episodes for the first season. For the second season, Lucasfilm has decided to go global. The international studios participating in the production of Visions include El Guiri from Spain, Cartoon Saloon from Ireland, Punkrobot from Chile, Aardman from the United Kingdom, Studio Mir from South Korea, Studio La Cachette from France, 88 Pictures from India, Trigger Fish from South Africa, and D’art Shtajio, from Japan, in collaboration with Lucasfilm.
According to Comicbook, one of the segments seen in the trailer is from Aardman Animations, which will look familiar to some viewers since this studio was also behind the animation of movies and TV shows like Wallace & Gromit, Flushed Away, Chicken Run, Shaun the Sheep, and other titles. The Aardman Animations episode will also count with the participation of a cast member from the original trilogy. Denis Lawson (Holby City, New Tricks), who played Rebel pilot Wedge Antilles, will be reprising his role and voicing the character for the episode titled “I Am Your Mother.”
During the Visions panel at Star Wars Celebration, the voice cast for all the episodes was also revealed, it can also be found via StarWars.com. For the episode “Sith” by El Guiri, Úrsula Corberó (Money Heist, Snake Eyes) will be voicing Lola, and Luis Tosar (Sky High, Malas Decisiones) will be voicing Sith Master. Both actors will also be voicing the characters in the Spanish dub. The episode will follow a former Sith apprentice, who has to face her past when her old master finds her.
For the episode “Screecher’s Reach” by Cartoon Saloon, Eva Whittaker (Wolfwalkers, Millie and Lou) voices Daal; Alex Connolly (Swept Under the Carpet) voices Baython; newcomer Noah Rafferty voices Quinn; Molly McCann (Maxines, The Holiday) voices Keena; Anjelica Huston (The Addams Family, Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia) voices Sith Mother, and Niamh Moyles (Wolfwalkers, Late Afternoon) voices Ghost. The episode will follow a young girl, looking for some rest from her time in the workhouse, who discovers a haunted cave with her friends. What she finds in the cave will change her life forever.
In the episode “In the Stars” by Punkrobot, Valentina Muhr (La Vida de Nosotras, Casa de Angelis) will voice Koten; newcomer Julia Oviedo will voice Tichina; Kate Dickie (Matriarch, Inside Man) and Amparo Noguera (La Ley de Baltazar, Chromosome 21) will voice officers. Muhr and Oviedo will also be voicing their characters in the Spanish dub. The episode follows two sisters, the last of their kind, living in hiding on a desolate land, learning how to survive the Empire’s invasion. The sisters must fight back after they are discovered during a water run.
Besides Lawson, the voice cast for the episode “I Am Your Mother” by Aardman includes Maxine Peake (The Theory of Everything, Wendell & Wild) as Kalina Kalfus; Charithra Chandran (Bridgerton, Class S) as Annisoukaline Kalfus; Daisy Haggard (Breeders, Hilda) as Dorata Van Reeple; and Bebe Cave (Victoria, Hang Ups) as Julan Van Reeple. The episode will tell the story of Anni, a young pilot who is embarrassed by her mum, and how she must team up with her for a family race at the academy. Along the way, their relationship will be tested.
The Episode “Journey to the Dark Head” by Studio Mir counts with a voice cast for both its original Korean version and for the English dub. For the original Korean, Jang Ye Na (Hero Circle, Tea Tea Cherry) will be voicing Ara; Lee Kyung Tae (Lookism, Exos Heroes) will be voicing Toul; Yun Yong Sik (Incredibles 2) will be voicing Bichan; Chwang Kwang will be voicing the Interpreter; Choi Soo Min (Birthcare Center) will be voicing Master Duta; Shin Yong Woo (My Hero Academia, Miniforce) will be voicing Master Leesagum; Lim Chae Heon (Inazuma Eleven, Zoids: New Century Zero) will be voicing the training partner; and Lee So Young (The Devil Judge) will be voicing Master Moru.
For the English dub, Ashley Park (Beef, Emily in Paris) will be voicing Ara; Eugene Lee Yang (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Try Guys) will be voicing Toul; Daniel Dae Kim (Lost, New Amsterdam) will be voicing Bichan; Albert Kong (Breaking, 911: Lone Star) will be voicing the interpreter; Greg Chun (Squid Game, Vinland Saga) will be voicing Master Leesagum and others; Jonella Landry (Spellbound, Can I Get A Whitness) will be voicing Master Duta and Judy Alice Lee (Rainbow High, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe) will be voicing Master Moru. The episode will follow a hopeful mechanic and a disillusioned young Jedi as they team up for the unlikely quest of turning the tide of the galactic war, but dark forces are following them.
For the episode “The Spy Dancer” by Studio La Cachette, Camille Cottin voices Loi’e; Lambert Wilson (The Matrix Resurrections, Shuttlecock) voices Jon; Kaycie Chase (The Smurfs, Epic Tales) voices Hétis; Rudi-James Jephcott (Trek to Yomi, Les Légendaries) voices the officer and Barbara Weber-Scaff (Rabbids Invasion, Invisible Network of Kids) voices Mee’ma. The episode will follow a premier dancer at a popular, Imperial-frequented cabaret who uses her unusual skills to spy for the Rebellion, but the presence of a mysterious officer threatens her mission.
“The Bandits of Golak” by 88 Pictures has the participation of Suraj Sharma (Life of Pi, How I Met Your Father) as Charuk; Sonal Kaushal (Doraemon, Astra Force) as Rani; Neeraj Kabi (Sita Ramam, Sherdil) as Inquisitor; Lillete Dubey (Tadka, Murder in Agonda) as Rugal; Sahil Vaid (The Socho projects, Babli Bouncer) as Maghadi; Richard Joel (The Legend of Hanuman, Thinkistan) as Scavenger and Sumanto Ray (Criminal Justice: Adhura Sach, Tera Chhalaava) as Jangori Leader and Dhoona. The episode will follow a boy and his force-sensitive younger sister as they flee from their village looking for refuge in a dhaba while being pursued by Imperial forces.
The collaboration between D’Art Shtajio and Lucasfilm Ltd., “The Pit,” includes the voices of Daveed Diggs (Hamilton, Central Park) as Crux; Anika Noni Rose (The Princess and the Frog, Let the Right One In) as Eureka; Jordyn Curet (Home Economics, Holiday Harmony) as Livy; Cedric Yarbrough (Reno 911!, Paradise PD) as the old prisoner; Steve Blum (Star Wars: Rebels, Cowboy Bebop: The Movie) as the Commander; and Mathew Wood (Star Wars: The Bad Batch, What If…?) as the stormtroopers. The episode will follow a young prisoner forced to dig for kyber by the Empire, as he plans a risky escape.
Finally, the episode “Aau’s Song” by Trigger Fish has newcomer Mpilo Jantjie voicing Aau’s dialogue; Dineo Du Toit (Kiya & the Kimoja Heroes) voicing Aau’s singing; Tumisho Masha (The Domestic, Gereza) voicing Abat; Cynthia Erivo (Pinocchio, Drift) as Kratu and Faith Baloyi (Blood Psalms, Flatland) as Attu. The episode will follow an alien child who longs to sing but is forced by her father to remain quiet because of her voice’s dangerous effect on the crystals in the nearby mines.
The new season of Visions will premiere on May 4 on Disney+. The first season is available on Disney+.
