One of the most imaginative projects of the Star Wars franchise in recent years returns next month. Disney+’s Star Wars: Visions releases its third volume on October 29. The premiere date announcement is accompanied by its first official trailer. View the trailer below.
Visions is an ambitious undertaking as Lucasfilm enlists different anime studios to write and create independent tales within the Star Wars universe. While the themes of good versus evil and a balance of light and dark remain, each studio has creative freedom to use its own animation style. The result is nine wholly unique experiences exploring different interpretations of the Force.
The first season of Visions debuted in September 2021. The second was released in May, two years later. This third installment was announced last November.
From the trailer, we are shown highlights from each episode created by the nine studios tasked with exploring new stories in the galaxy far, far away: David Production (Level E, Fire Force), Kamikaze Douga+ Anima (Batman Ninja, Tales of Crestoria-The Wake of Sin), Kinema Citrus Co., (Tokyo Magnitue 8.0, The Rising of the Shield Hero), Polygon Pictures (Knights of Sidonia: The Movie, Tron: Uprising), Production I.G (Kaiju No. 8, Fena: Pirate Princess), Project Studio Q (MagidesKAI: Mahou Shoujo Magical Destoryers, Evangelion Shito, Hakara Shuurai), Trigger (Kill la Kill, BNA: Brand New Animal), and Wit Studio (My Deer Friend, The Ancient Magus’ Bride).
One episode shows the characters cel-shaded in black, grey, and white, while colors burst vibrantly in background sequences and from various weapons. Another highlights a woman in a gorgeously illustrated green space, following some supernatural being or power to an unknown fate.
Others highlight young Jedi in their own X-Wing, soaring through the black galaxy with their friendly droid companion. Other scenes illustrate a massive space battle, while another highlights a young cadet whose speeder bike transforms into wearable tech.
As with previous installments, both the Japanese and English dub versions feature an incredible voice cast. For the English dub, viewers will hear the likes of Brian Tee (Reacher, Expats), Will Sharpe (The White Lotus, A Real Pain), Lee Shorten (Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, The Terror), Stephanie Hsu (Laid, The Wild Robot), Jennie Kwan (Carol & The End of the Wolrd, Lords of the Fallen), Freddie Highmore (Bates Motel, The Good Doctor), Anna Sawai (Pachinko, Shogun), Steve Buscemi (Wednesday, Billy Madison), Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish), Mark Strong (Dune: Prophecy, 1917), Karen Kukuhara (The Boys, Craig of the Creek), Judith Light (Who’s the Boss, Poker Face), George Takei (Star Trek, Hit-Monkey), and many more.
According to the press release, the executive producers for Volume Three are James Waugh (Young Jedi Adventures, LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy), Josh Rimes (Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, Star Wars: The Bad Batch), and Jacqui Lopez (Willow: Behind the Magic, Star Wars: Fun with Nubs). Justin Leach (Eden, Levithan) will co-executive produce, along with producers Kanako Shirasaki (Eden) and Flannery Huntley (Pacific Rim, Jurassic World).
The possibilities are limitless as the Force, again, reaches places it’s never touched before. Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 arrives on October 29, only on Disney+.
