The upcoming Star Wars: Acolyte series takes place before the events of The Phantom Menace. According to Screenrant, Amandla Stenberg (Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse), is set to play the main character, a former padawan named Mae. The premise of the story is that she teams up with her old master, Sol, played by Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), in order to solve a series of crimes while encountering obstacles along the way. The series showrunner, Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) pitched the High Republic-era series, with Stenberg in mind to play the leading role before she was officially casted.
The video, released by Star Wars official channels, showcases Stenberg’s passion for both music and the Star Wars universe.
Amandla, who is also an accomplished violinist, honored John Williams, the famed composer for Star Wars, by playing a version of the theme song created by John himself just for her. According to Screenrant, she notes in the video: “John Williams has the ability to create music that feels huge in scope while still being emotive. “ Upon learning that he composed her solo violin arrangements, she was stunned “ecstatic when I found out, and terrified. It’s a once-in-a lifetime experience, and it’s something I’ll hold onto forever.” John Williams (Raiders of the Lost Ark) recently returned to write for Disney+’s Obi-Wan series in 2022 after not scoring any projects after The Rise of Skywalker.
The video not only highlights Stenberg’s musical talents but also underscores the enduring legacy of John Williams’ compositions within the Star Wars galaxy. With The Acolyte set to premiere on June 4th, this video serves as a delightful appetizer for fans eager to dive into this new chapter of Star Wars. The new series will surely be a wonderful addition to the franchise, as well as connecting to the past installments.
