According to a Disney press release, Lucas Films Animation teams up with Disney+ to deliver new animated short series Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld to be released on the celebrated Star Wars holiday May 4. Returning will be former assassin and bounty hunter Asajj Ventress and Outlaw Cad Bane.
These new animated shorts will join the series, which began back in 2022 with Tales of the Jedi and continued its run with another installment, Tales of the Empire. The series will focus on the infamous underbelly of the Star Wars universe, revolving around two of the most recognized villains. Unlikely allies and reformed villains Asajj Ventres and Cad Bane take on the criminal element with vigilante justice.
According to the Disney press release, 50-year-old cowboy-hat connoisseur David Filoni (The Oblongs, Star Wars Clone Wars), chief creative director for Lucasfilm and series creator, takes the helm as showrunner. The cast of voice actors are as follows: Nika Futterman (Cat Dog, Hey Arnold), Corey Burton (Kingdom Hearts 3D, Crash Bandicoot), Artt Butler (Her, Star vs Forces of Evil), Lane Factor (Reservation Dogs, The Fabelmans), AJ LoCascio (Voltron: Legendary Defender), Clare Grant (Changeland, Walk The Line), Dawn-Lyen Gardner (Luke Cage, Queen Sugar) and Eric Lopez (Young Justice, Infinite Justice). Fans of the widely popular FX series Reservation Dogs may recognize Lane’s voice from the fan favorite character Cheese.
