Television actor René Auberjonois died early Sunday morning in his Los Angeles home. A confirmation made to The Associated Press by the late actor’s son disclosed that the Auberjonois passing had to do to symptoms related to lung cancer, he was 79 years old.
Dozens of his cast members and friends including William Shatner, George Takei and Robert Hewitt Wolfe all of whom took to social media to honor the late actor by saying a few words of kindness. William Shatner wrote: “I have just heard about the death of my friend and fellow actor @reneauberjonois. To sum up his life in a tweet is nearly impossible. To Judith, Tessa & Remy I send you my love & strength. I will keep you in my thoughts and remember a wonderful friendship with René.” The tweet can be found here.
Born and raised in New York City, New York coming from a long prominent line of artists, it was when Auberjonois was very young that he finally decided to pursue an interest in acting.
His filmography found on IMDB is extensive, not surprisingly considering the actor had 49 years of acting under his belt. He appeared in dozens of films and television shows including his first credited acting gig in a film called M.A.S.H. Auberjonois continued to appeared in television shows like Boston Legal, The Little Mermaid, Warehouse 13, Charlie’s Angels and even guest started in Madam Secretary, NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds, and Its Always Sunny in Philidephia. However, Auberjonois is most famously attributed in playing Odo in the 1990’s television show Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Auberjonois work as an actor was recognized in 1969 after being awarded Tony for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical, for his work in a Broadway play called Coco alongside Katharine Hepburn and since then had continued to earned multiple Tony nominations.
