According to an article via The Hollywood Reporter Apple TV+ has officially greenlit a new crime drama series starring Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan, The Perfect Couple), Zazie Beetz (Atlanta, Joker: Folie à Deux), and Stephen Graham (Adolescence, Deliver Me From Nowhere). The series follows a harrowing face-off between a war-hardened homicide detective and a cunning serial killer in small-town Pennsylvania.
Adapted from the best-selling Joona Linna novels by Lars Kepler, the show is set to transplant the Swedish-set thriller to the American landscape. The creative team includes Rowan Joffe (Tin Star, 28 Weeks Later) and John Hlavin (Shooter, The Man Who Fell to Earth) as showrunners, with Tim Van Patten (The Sopranos, Masters of the Air) directing and executive producing the first two episodes.
“The show’s central mystery explores how far someone will go to protect the people they love,” says an article via The Hollywood Reporter.
Schreiber will play Jonah Lynn, a former soldier turned Philadelphia detective who relocates to a quiet Pennsylvania town in search of peace. However, his attempt at a new life is shattered when the town becomes the hunting ground of Jurek Walter, a coldly intelligent serial killer portrayed by Graham.
“Jonah’s personal and professional life collide when his adopted daughter, Saga Bauer, an FBI agent, is forced into a dangerous standoff with the killer,” The Hollywood Reporter explains.
Beetz stars as Bauer, who becomes central to the investigation after Walter’s final missing victim prompts a desperate chase. The emotional tension rises as Jonah must weigh duty against family in the face of escalating violence. Behind the scenes, the series draws from the real-life writing duo behind Lars Kepler—Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril—who serve as executive producers. Their bestselling work is being reimagined for a global audience through a uniquely American lens.
“A+E Studios and Range Studios are producing the series with an ensemble of executive producers including Schreiber, Beetz through her Sleepy Poppy banner, and Lars Kepler,” reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Joining the team are Oystein Karlsen (Lilyhammer, Exit) , David Rysdahl (Fargo, Black Mirror) , Dorothy Fortenberry (The Handmaid’s Tale, Extrapolations) , Niclas Salomonsson (The Informer, Knutby) and Julie Herrin (The Last of Us, Agatha All Along) as co-executive producer. The production reflects Apple TV+’s continued investment in gripping, character-driven dramas. This series marks the latest high-profile addition to Apple’s growing library of psychological thrillers and prestige crime dramas. It also extends the streamer’s trend of adapting internationally successful IP for American audiences.
