

According to Deadline, Actress June Lockhart recently died at the age of 100. Lockhart was most well known for her portrayal in the television shows Lassie, Lost in Space and Meet Me in St. Louis. Lockhart died surrounded by her family, daughter, June Elizabeth, and Granddaughter, Christianna, by her side.
Deadline repports, Elizabeth said in a statement, “Mommy always considered acting her craft, her vocation, but her true passion were journalism, politics, science and NASA. She cherished playing her role in Lost in Space and she was delighted to know that she inspired many future astronauts, as they would remind her on visits to NASA. That meant even more to her than the hundreds of television and movie roles she played.”
Lockhart was born on June 25, 1925 in New York City. At the age of eight she had her first acting job in the 1933 production of Peter Ibbetson at the Metropolitan Opera House. In 1938 Lockhart made her screen debut at the age of 13 in the film A Christmas Carol produced by MGM. Bob and Mrs Cratchit was played by Lockhart’s real Mother and Father, Gene and Kathleen Lockhart. MGM went on to sign her at the age of 19.
Deadline reports that Lockhart’s most famous role was her portrayal of Ruth in the Lassie TV series, and Maureen Robinson in the TV show Lost in Space. Lockhart had several other TV appearances, such as, Shirley Temple Story Book, Gunsmoke Perry Mason, Bewitched to more modern televisions show like, Full House, 7th Heaven and Beverly hills 90210.
More recently, she had a cameo in the Lost in Space film during the reboot in 1998. This film was the start of Lockhart’s becoming a spokeswomen for NASA and having to attend launches and landings over the next decade. She had the honor of receiving the Exceptional Public Achievement Medal from NASA in 2013.
