It’s a bird, it’s a plane! No it’s a..squirrel? According to TV Line, Marvel and ABC Studios are currently developing a New Warriors comedy series that will feature an unknown and unconventional comic book heroine. Ladies and gents: meet Squirrel Girl!
Even though Marvel and ABC studios declined to make an official statement, sources have confirmed that the half-hour project is currently being shopped around to cable and streaming outlets. So who is Squirrel Girl? Well, she’s a junior version of The Avengers, the New Warriors are a superhero squad comprised of teenagers, one of whom being Doreen Green aka Squirrel Girl. Her powers include not only communicating with the world’s vast squirrel population but she also has super-speed and strength.
In the comics, Squirrel Girl apparently was a nanny for Luke Cage and Jessica Jones’ daughter. This made headlines recently when Anna Kendrick, the Pitch Perfect star stated that she would love to play the nutty character on television. Kendrick said, “My brother sent me a Squirrel Girl comic because he thinks I should. I don’t know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!”
