The renowned global phenomenon, Squid Game, which captivated viewers worldwide with its unique concept of contestants partaking in dangerous challenges based on children’s games, will delve into a major character’s backstory.. According to Screenrant, there are two choices for a potential spinoff, which could be based on the Front Man, played by Lee Byung-hun (I Saw The Devil), or the Recruiter, played by Gong Yoo (Train to Busan).
According to Screenrant, these two are obvious choices to be targeted for a potential spin-off, as little is known about their characters. We know that the Recruiter’s main purpose is to find unfortunate individuals who would play a game of Ddakji and get them a card to participate in the competition.
The other intriguing character in the series is the Front Man, played by Lee Byung-hun (I Saw The Devil), who is the mastermind behind the game. Currently, we know that the character is the long-lost brother of Hwang Jun-ho, played by Wi Ha-joon (Gyeongseong Creature), revealed in the first season. He is disguised as a participant in the second season to keep an eye on Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae (The Acolyte).
According to Screenrant, the series creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk (Silenced), expressed his excitement about a possible spin-off, “One of the ideas I’m tossing around is what happened between season one and two. There’s a three-year gap. So, for example, what was the Front Man doing during those three years? What was the Recruiter doing? When I have some downtime, I like to just toss some ideas around and go wild with my imagination. So I guess we can be open to anything.”
While waiting for further confirmation of a potential spin-off series, the first two seasons of Squid Game are available to stream on Netflix, with a third one in production.
