The well-known animated series Spongebob Squarepants, released in the summer of 1999, will be receiving a spinoff series entitled Kamp Koral: Spongebob’s Under Years, according to Variety. The upcoming series, coming to Nickelodeon and Paramount Plus, will focus on a ten-year-old Spongebob at a summer camp. The networks released a six-minute sneak peek of the prequel series.
The original series focused on an adult sponge who lived at the bottom of the ocean with his pet snail in a city entitled Bikini Bottom and works as a fry cook at the Krusty Krab. The series is currently airing its twelfth season. The official sneak peek follows a young Spongebob as he ventures to catch his first jellyfish at Kamp Koral with recurring roles being a bite-sized Patrick and brace-faced Sandy as well as the camp counselor, Squidward. The prequel series will feature most of the original voice cast, including Tom Kenny (Adventure Time) as Spongebob, Bill Fagerbakke (Coach) as Patrick, Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption) as Mr. Krabbs, Rodger Bumpass (Invader Zim) as Squidward, and Carolyn Lawrence (Jimmy Neutron) as Sandy.
The regular gang will be joined by two newcomers, Nobby, voiced by Carlos Alazraqui (RENO 911!) and Narlene, voiced by Kate Higgins (Barbie). The duo will play narwhal siblings who live in the woods around Kamp Koral. A release date for the series has not been released yet but it can be assumed that it will premiere later in 2021.
