Will Ferrell is set to star in his second IFC miniseries, the Spoils of Babylon, Deadline has reported. A soap opera parody, the six-part series will be created along the same lines as last year’s Casa De Mi Padre, a spoof of Mexican telenovelas.
The series will tell the story of the wealthy Morehouse family and the adopted son who joins his stepsister to run the family oil business—the seventh largest company in the world. Will Ferrell’s role is that of the Shah of Iran, while the step-siblings, who are doing their best to avoid their attraction to one another, will be played by Kristen Wiig and Tobey Maguire.
Ferrell, Wiig and Maguire will be joined by Michael Sheen, Tim Robbins, Jessica Alba, Val Kilmer and Haley Joel Osment. Matt Piedmont is set to direct, and the series will be produced by Funny or Die.
No release date has yet been announced, but hopefully the Spoils of Babylon’s excellent cast will offer the same absurd humor as Casa De Mi Padre.
