In the midst of its tenth season, The Walking Dead killed off several characters in the recent episode “Walk With Us,” according to ComicBook. AMC’s long-running apocalypse drama is known for its shocking reveals, twists, and deaths as it depicts a world taken over by zombies and the survivors amongst them. As previously announced, Danai Gurira (Black Panther), who portrays Michonne, will be leaving the series during the on-going tenth season. At the conclusion of Sunday’s episode, the show dropped a teaser trailer for its thirteenth episode which shows Gurira’s last appearance in character.
*SPOILERS ALERT*
In “Walk With Us,” the series displayed the demise of one of the series’ main antagonists, Alpha (Samantha Morton). Alpha has been the de facto leader of the rival group, The Whisperers, who have been the series antagonists since its ninth season. In the show, Alpha was killed by Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) during the episode’s closing scene. Negan deceives Alpha by telling her that he is leading her to her daughter Lydia. However, Negan, in turn, slits Alpha’s throat before decapitating her and returning her head to Carol (Melissa McBride). There has been much speculation from fans on who helped Negan escape prison, however, his betrayal signifies Carol as the mastermind of this plan.
Alpha was not the only The Walking Dead character to meet their end in this episode. Mary (Thora Birch) was killed by Beta (Ryan Hurst) and Earl (John Finn) was bitten by a walker while leading children to safety.
The teaser trailer at the end of the twelfth episode shows Gurira’s Michonne in clips of her final moments in the series. Following Michonne’s departure from the community in the midseason finale, the series will focus on her yet again during her travel with Virgil (Kevin Carroll). Michonne is tasked to provide Virgil with a boat to sail home and reunite with his family in exchange for weapons that will be used to fight walkers and future enemies.
The teaser has many fans overjoyed with Michonne displaying part of younger self in combat, giving way to her status as a fan favorite. The Walking Dead has previously said many goodbyes to beloved characters in recent seasons such as the main protagonist Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) in season nine. Gurira’s departure will hopefully leave fans with a satisfying conclusion as the show has done for characters in the past.
