According to Comicbook, Dexter: Original Sin brings Dexter Morgan, played by Michael C. Hall (Kill Your Darlings, Gamer), back from the dead after the end of New Blood, a mini series exploring his more “definitive” ending. Dexter ended in 2013 and since then has released three different spin-off series: Dexter: New Blood, Dexter: Original Sin and Dexter: Resurrection. The mini series ended with Dexter being shot and killed by his own son, Harrison Morgan.
New Blood expands on the idea that the butcher realized he does more harm than good by ruining his loved ones’ lives per Comicbook. He was also outed as a serial killer and allows his son to kill him because it’s better than spending time in jail or receiving a death penalty.
Original Sin is a prequel series and the first episode debuted on Paramount+ on the night of December 13. The episode is where the resurrection was revealed to the audience. It began by showing Angela, Dexter’s police ex-girlfriend in a panic as she rushes to the emergency room with his unconscious body. In an attempt to attend to his wound, the many doctors realize he doesn’t have a pulse. They try to help bring him back to life by using a defibrillator. After multiple tries, his pulse is back, even though he is unconscious and in a temporary coma. The goal for the show is to show early years of the characters. Comicbook state it has been a pretty successful way of portraying it.
Via Comicbook, Dexter Morgan is scheduled to return in Resurrection. But that won’t be out until June 2025. Either Resurrection or Original Sin will expand on how he is in a coma. The coldness of Iron Lake slowed Dexter’s blood loss, allowing him to have more of a chance at being alive.
The show was very monumental in the early 2000s and late 2010s and recently has been enjoyed by Generation Z. Netflix added Dexter over the summer which captured the young audience as noted by Comicbook.
