The acclaimed Apple TV series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, is looking to wrap up its first season with a bang, having a steady review rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes. According to Comicbook, an exclusive clip from the season finale has been released. The tenth and final episode, dubbed “Beyond Logic”, will follow the events from the previous episode, where Kate, May, and Lee fell into the Hollow Earth, and meet Keiko, who hasn’t aged over the years. View the exclusive clip below.
In the exclusive clip, viewers see Kate played by Anna Sawai (Shogun), Lee Shaw played by Kurt Russel (Sky High), Kiersey Clemons’s (The Flash)May, and Mari Yamamoto’s (Kate) Keiko plan on escaping from the Hollow Earth. The clip gives the audience a glimpse into the dangers of the finale and how our heroes will combat them.
The show’s co-writers Matt Fraction (Fantastic Four) and Chris Black (Outcast) went into detail about how the show was set apart from the Monsterverse of the film franchise. “
“It’s more intimate and character-focused than the movies,” Black told Comicbook. “It’s still a big-budget production, but we didn’t want to do ten mini-movies. We were able to focus on the drama and trauma of these characters and this family. We wanted to be able to explore that.”
According to Comicbook, Fraction goes into great detail about the show’s original pitch to Legendary.
“Our pitch to Legendary was always about that it has to be about these people who we care about,” Fraction said to Comicbook. “Cate Randa is a woman who discovers the worst possible secret during the worst period of her life. Even removing the giant monsters, it’s an interesting drama. We’re following these people who are discovering how to live in this new world. We are with these characters looking up at the scope. It was about keeping the logic of where Care and Kentaro are, and everything else came around that.”
There has been no further information about the series being renewed for a second season at this time. Watch the season finale of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on Friday, January 12 only on Apple TV+.
