The two-episode premiere of the recently released Marvel series, Daredevil: Born Again had opened with Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox (Spider-Man No Way Home) giving up his vigilante lifestyle to focus on his legal career. According to Comicbook, Matt’s beliefs are now put to the test, as he tries to defend Hector Ayala aka White Tiger, played by Kamar de los Reyes (LA Apocalypse), who has been blamed for being a cop killer. It was later seen within the third episode that Hector was killed by a mysterious individual wearing the Punisher’s insignia.
According to Comicbook, The Punisher aka Frank Castle, played by Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead), is a vigilante that follows his code of self justice, and uses any means necessary to complete it. The identity of the shadowy individual remains a mystery, but what we do know is that they have a connection with Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D’Onofrio (Echo).
According to Comicbook, a similar scenario was revealed in the Punisher #13 comic, where Frank encountered a police officer that congratulated him for his methods and had a sticker on his car. Frank goes on to say within it ,”I’ll say this once. We’re not the same. You took an oath to uphold the law. You help people. I gave all that up a long time ago. You don’t do what I do. Nobody does.” This statement showcases that Frank is well aware that he is not an ideal role model that people should look up to and tries to lead people into picking a different path than he did.
According to Comicbook, the character’s creator, Gerry Conway (Dino-Riders), goes on the voice the misuse of the iconic Punisher symbol, and that when authority design to utilize it, they basically decided to embrace the violent path of an outlaw.
