The final season of Prime Video’s flagship series, The Boys , continues its treacherous march toward series finale by systematically dismantling everything ,in in which the latest episode delivered one of the series most brutal moments. According to Screenrant, in the series fifth season episode seven named “The Penultimate Episode” showcased Oh Father, played by Daveed Diggs (Trolls Band Together, The Little Mermaid) giving prays to Homelander, played by Anthony Starr (Cobweb, Banshee), who he deemed ascended to Godhood, but then commits a gruesome slaughtering against people that didn’t believe in him.
During an interview with Screenrant, Daveed Diggs delved into the increasingly volatile landscape of the series’ current season. A pivotal moment in the discussion centered on Homelander’s escalating tyranny and how it impacts the surrounding characters. The question that he was asked about his character was,”Could that be a turning point for him?”
Diggs goes on to give his views with Screenrant,”Yeah, I think there are a number of moments when he could turn. It’s fun to go back in the season and pinpoint those and be like, “Oh, there was a choice. You could have made a different choice there.” He’s given a lot of opportunities, and I think it does get really conflicting for him. Again, he’s a hustler, but he’s not a murderer. That’s actually not his vibe. He’s powerful, but not like that.”
Introducing such a pivotal narrative shift so close to the series finale carries immense risk. It remains to be seen whether the ‘Oh Father’ storyline will ultimately align with Billy Butcher—portrayed with grit by Karl Urban (Mortal Kombat 2, Star Trek) and his team of vigilantes, or if the plot will double down on its allegiance to the show’s famously corrupted superhero.
