Bella Ramsey (His Dark Materials, Game of Thrones), who plays Ellie in the popular HBO series The Last of Us offers a thrilling glimpse into her character’s trajectory within the second season. According to Deadline, Ellie’s path of vengeance all started back in the second episode where she was forced to witness the death of Joel, played by Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, The Wild Robot) by the hands of Abby, played by Kaitlyn Denver (Booksmart, Dopesick).
According to Deadline, even after Tommy, played Gabriel Luna (FUBAR, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) tried to calm Ellie, she goes on to kill several members of Abby’s group which include Mel, played by Ariela Barer (Marvel’s Runaways, The Thundermans) and Owen, played by Spencer Lord (Hysterria, Heartland).
In an interview with Deadline about her character’s current headspace, Bella Ramsey states, “All of these people are dying around her, and now her loved ones, because of her monomaniacal need to kill Abby. I think she’s starting just to realize how her actions are affecting her entire life.” The season finale concluded with a cliffhanger, featuring Ellie and her group trapped in a theater by Abby. During this encounter, Abby killed Jesse, portrayed by Young Mazino (Beef,Glass), and injured Tommy. The scene then transitions to a flashback set several years earlier, showing Abby and her group in an undisclosed safehouse in Seattle.
Continuing the interview, Ramsey tells Deadline about her excitement on the future journey of her character,”I’m really excited. The second game is so brilliant, so what a joy to have the space and the time of more seasons to explore all of that and get into it. The same way, after Season 1, I was so excited to get back into Ellie’s skin for Season 2, I’m excited again for that again in season three.”
The entire first and second season to The Last of Us are available to stream on HBO Max.
