The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Jacob Balaton (Spider-Man: Homecoming) will be moving to television at Syfy. The actor, best known for his role as Ned Leeds in the Spider-Man: Homecoming trilogy, will lead the new series, Reginald the Vampire, based on the Fat Vampire series by author Johnny B. Truant (Invasion). Balaton currently awaits the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home on December 17.
The new series follows Batalon as the starring role, Reginald Baskin, an unlikely hero who tumbles into a world full of vampires and must overcome every obstacle he faces. Along the way, Reginald will discover that he has powers of his own.
Harley Peyton (Twin Peaks) will write the script, executive produce, and serve as showrunner. Jeremiah Chechik (Shadowhunters) will also executive produce and direct the series. Todd Berger (Don’t Eat the Baby) and Lindsay Macadam (My Neighbor’s Keeper), of Great Pacific Media and Modern Story Company, will also executive produce, and Julie Di Cresce (The Phantom) will co-executive produce.
The Fat Vampire series was first published in 2012 and consists of six books. The series also spawned an off-shoot series, The Vampire Maurice. Fat Vampire will be Truant’s first TV adaptation.
Reginald the Vampire will join a number of new scripted originals for Syfy, including the recently renewed Resident Alien, the upcoming Chucky series, Day of the Dead, and The Surrealtor.
A release date for Reginald the Vampire has not been set.
