Space Force, an upcoming web-television series created by Steve Carell and Greg Daniels, has been confirmed for a Netflix release on May 31st. The show is to feature Carell, Ben Schwartz, John Malkovich, Diana Silvers, and Tawny Newsome. Joining them are Jimmy O. Yang, Alex Sparrow, Don Lake, Noah Emmerich, Fred Willard, and Jessica St. Clair in recurring roles. The series is to be executive produced by Daniels, Carell, and Howard Klein.
The show was announced January 16, 2019 when Netflix greenlit production for a ten-episode first season. Principal photography began last September and ended January of this year. The series is a workplace comedy centered on those tasked with the creation of the newly established Space Force branch of the armed forces. The series is inspired by President Donald Trump’s launching of the Space Force division of the United States armed forces last December and the resulting $738 billion increase to the defense budget. The proposal was initially mocked and criticized by experts and late-night commentators alike and has remained the subject of much controversy due to its relatively vague goals and questionable utility.
The release date was confirmed by Schwartz on the ‘You Made It Weird’ podcast by Pete Holmes. No trailer has been released as of yet.
