Paramount+ sets a release date for the first of two South Park films coming to the streamer, via Deadline. South Park: Post Covid will be released this Thanksgiving.
South Park: Post Covid will stream exclusively on Paramount+ on Thursday, Nov. 25. Details have yet to come out on the film, but another film will be coming to Paramount+ in December, according to Deadline.
Post Covid will be one of 14 South Park films that will be coming to Paramount+. Creators Tyler Parker (Despicable Me 3) and Matt Stone (Team America: World Police) inked a deal with Viacom CBS with the two making South Park films for Paramount+ through 2027 as well as the renewal of the South Park series on Comedy Central through 2027.
The upcoming film will explore life after the coronavirus pandemic. It won’t be the first time that the series talked about the pandemic. Last August, South Park released a special, titled South Park: Pandemic Special which earned an Emmy nomination and was named the No. 1 scripted telecast on cable in 2020. The pandemic special was then followed up by The South ParQ Vaccination Special in March, which drew in 3.5 million viewers.
South Park follows the exploits of four boys, Steve, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman, who live in the small town of South Park, located in the South Park basin in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The plot of each episode usually stirs from events, typically supernatural and extraordinary, frequently happening in the town. The show became popular for its profanity and dark humor that satirizes various topics for an adult audience.
Paramount+ released a teaser video announcing the launch date.
