Memories are precious and time is fleeting, argues the first trailer for the Amazon Prime Video original series Solos. A star studded cast, it features Oscar winners Anne Hathaway (Modern Love), Helen Mirren (The Queen), and Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby) in addition to Uzo Aduba (Orange is the New Black), Constance Wu (Hustlers), Dan Stevens (Beauty and the Beast), Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Solider), and Nicole Beharie (Miss Juneteenth), as reported by Indiewire.
Detailing the lonely lives of eight different people, the upcoming limited series will tell seven separate stories in 30 minute episodes. A character-driven study, each episode will see a different cast member perform a monologue, recalling distant memories at their most lonely and disconnected.
“A memory isn’t simply something you have, it’s a promise,” says Freeman’s character in the new trailer. Sitting alone on a bench at the beach, Freeman plays an aging man dealing with Alzheimers. His storyline involves Stevens, with the trailer offering a glimpse of them together in one of Freeman’s distant memories. Mirren plays an astronaut alone in space, and Hathaway portrays a woman who discovers time travel. A blend of melodrama and science fiction, the series aims to prove that the general human experience is what binds us all together even when we feel helplessly alone.
Solos is created, written, directed, and executive produced by David Weil (Hunters). This marks his second project at Amazon, as his first one was the successful crime-drama series Hunters, which has been renewed for a second season. In addition to Weil, Melina Matsoukas (Insecure) will direct and executive produce, along with Zach Braff (Scrubs) directing the episode starring Hathaway. Sam Taylor-Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey) and Laura Lancaster (Chicago Fire) will also executive produce.
Solos will premiere on Amazon Prime Video May 21 with seven episodes in total. Watch the first trailer below:
