Yesterday, Comedy Central released the first trailer for its upcoming animated comedy, Moonbeam City. The 2-minute teaser was uploaded last night to Comedy Central’s YouTube channel, and has garnered over 20,000 views in a single day, foreshadowing the potential success of the series as another major hit for Comedy Central.
Moonbeam City is a slapstick, over-the-top parody of action-packed 80s cop shows (à la Miami Vice) starring such Hollywood giants as Rob Lowe, Kate Mara, and Elizabeth Banks. The trailer highlights the pseudo-dangerous escapades of the vice squad – headed by Rob Lowe’s appropriately-named character, Dazzle Novak. The Moonbeam City P.D. seems just as slick, smooth, and starved for justice as anyone would expect from a Miami Vice parody squad – that is to say, not at all. But what Dazzle Novak and his cronies lack in toughness, they make up for in sheer hilarity. If Comedy Central’s current lineup lacks outrageous 80s humor, Moonbeam City promises to fill that void, and then some.
Moonbeam City premieres September 16 on Comedy Central.
