As stated by Deadline, Sweetpea is being renewed for season two exclusively on Sky/Starz. The show stars Ella Purnell (Fallout, Arcane), Calam Lynch (Bridgerton, Derry Girls), Nicole Lecky (Sense8, Doctors), Jon Pointing (Big Boys, The Great Unwashed), Jeremy Swift (Ted Lasso, Mary Poppins Returns), Leah Harvey (Tuesday, Foundation), Dino Kelly (Hilda and the Mountain King, One Shot), Ingrid Oliver (The Hustle, You, Me and Him), Alexandra Dowling (Emily, Game of Thrones), Dustin Demri-Burns (Cardinal Burns, All My Friends Hate Me), Nitin Ganatra (The Mistress of Spices, Bride and Prejudice), Tim Samuels (The Witcher, Empire of Light) and David Bark-Jones (The Diplomat, Pride and Prejudice).
Purnell and Kristie Swain (Run, Eve) stated that season two will show “Rhiannon Lewis return with a vengeance as her killer secret continues to spiral and she becomes more twisted than ever.”
Purnell said in the statement, “Being part of Rhiannon’s coming-of-rage journey has been a career highlight for me, and to see fans engage with and relate to our oddball Rhiannon, in all her complexity, feels truly special. I cannot wait for audiences to see what she does next. Stay tuned.”
Executive producer of See-Saw Films, Patrick Walters (Heartstopper, The Essex Serpent), continued to say, “Making Sweetpea has been the most exhilarating of rollercoaster rides, and we’re so excited to be partnering again with Sky Studios, and to have Starz back as the show’s U.S. home for Series 2. Rhiannon already feels like an iconic character, and See-Saw and fanboy can’t wait get back into the world of the show with the powerhouse that is Ella Purnell.”
Swain created and executive-produced the show. Per Deadline, the story is as follows: “Rhiannon Lewis (Purnell), who doesn’t make much of an impression – people walk past her in the street without a second glance, she’s continually overlooked for a promotion at work, the guy she likes won’t commit, and her dad is really sick. But when she’s pushed over the edge and loses control, the wallflower is gone, replaced by a young woman capable of anything.”
The drama series is produced by See-Saw Films and the Walters-led label associated with Sky Studios, noted by Deadline. NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution from Sky Studios is handling the international sales of Sweetpea.
