Sky Acquires ‘The Great British Bake Off’ Producer

According to The Hollywood ReporterSky has taken full ownership of Love Productions which runs The Great British Bake Off. The company has owned a 70 percent stake in Love Productions since 2014, and in late February announced picking up the remaining stakes for full control of the producing company. Through this acquiring, Sky is looking to grow a vast international content business.

The Great British Bake Off is a competitive baking show, in which contestants complete 3 challenges within a week. Their goal is to impress the judges enough to go through to the next round, and eventually are crowned Britain’s best amateur baker.

Jane Millichip, chief commercial officer of Sky Studios, said via The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday about the deal: “Love Productions is a world-class production company that has continued to create popular, thought-provoking and award-winning factual and factual entertainment shows since Sky first invested in 2014. We are proud that Love Productions is now a wholly-owned Sky Studios company.”

Bake Off had stellar reviews, receiving a BAFTA for Best Feature in 2012, with nominations in the following years. Love also has credits for ‎The Great British Sewing Bee for the BBC, and social issues documentary series Benefits Street for Channel 4; along with The Great American Baking Show for ABC.

Surrounding the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, the company said via The Hollywood Reporter “there will be a significant impact in 2020 and 2021 with delayed program production. Existing and new programming will go into production when it is safe to do so.”
